My name is Muddassar Raja and I am the Chair of Hijama Nation Association (HNA) in the UK. My wife; Umm Amaar and I co-founded our organization when we learned about Hijama Cupping Therapy about 4 years ago. We used to live in Connecticut, USA and started our journey from there…
Even though my background is in IT & Business Consultancy, Real Estate, investment and Lifecoaching, I found myself drawn in to this phenomena of Hijama Cupping Therapy and Holistic Health. My wife already had formal training in Holistic Therapies from both UK and USA. So for her, this was a natural, organic progression. We learned about this Traditonal Islamic Healing Art and understood its significance in Islam once we studied the authentic ahadith.
The Prophet (PBUH) also said: “If there is anything good in the medicines with which you treat yourselves, it is in the incision of the Hijama therapist……………”
(Reference: Muslim, 2205)
We realized the importance of Hijama itself, but also the role of a Hijama Practitioners. Further, we grasped the importance of Hijama in Islamic Medicine. Everything comes back to Detox and Cleansing on a physical and spiritual level such as fasting, Hijama, Water Therapy or Ruqyah Quranic Healing;
 The Prophet (PBUH) said: “The best treatment is Hijama Cupping; it removes blood, lightens the back and sharpens the eyesight.” (Reference: At Tirmidhi, 3053)
We got formally qualified and started treating patients. As demand grew, we started training them too. The popularity of Hijama in the Tri-State area forced us to set up an online Hijama course, so it was accessible to everyone. We realized that we had to share this knowledge with the Ummah and make Hijama available to all Muslims. We never dreamed that the word would spread and we would go global!
We set up HNA and were determined to have Hijama recognized in the USA, Canada and Europe as a legitimate, natural, holistic therapy. We started doing educational workshops and campaigning with various States Departments of Health. Unfortunately, in many states, Hijama is not allowed as formal medical training and a license is required. So we became restricted and stifled in our work in the USA. We could not treat or train people freely. So we had to make a radical life decision and decided to move to the UK, as Hijama is allowed here. So even though we moved, we vowed that we would still campaign and work hard to get Hijama recognized in the USA one day with ALLAH’s permission.
Subhanallah, we never imagined that it would happen so quickly! We started off with humble beginnings in CT, travelled to the UK and expanded as a College and Association. Alhumdulillah, we have been working very hard to both revive and establish the Sunnah of Hijama Therapy. In just a couple of years, We have firmly established Hijama in the UK now. We currently specialize in Hijama, Naturopathy, Blood Analysis, Ruqyah, Energy Work, Lifecoaching, Marketing and Business Consultancy. We are also very busy with promotion, campaigning, researching and creating national policies for Hijama.
We also became members of the General regulatory Council for Complementary Therapies (GRCCT). They work with the Federal Regulatory Council (FRC) which is the part of the UK Government. Alhumdulillah, they designated us to be the Lead Advisors of Holistic Hijama to the UK Government!
web-GRCCT-logoWe were able to have Hijama Cupping Therapy recognized as a discipline in its own right and as a Core Therapy Qualification. Alhumdulillah, we now offer a Level 5 online Hijama Course which is an Accredited Higher Diploma in Hijama Cupping Therapy (Dip.HCT). Our certified graduates are also able to become members of the GRCCT and be on the UK National register. Due to this amazing success, we are now planning to go global!

Recently, we have been researching and establishing Hijama in the USA and Canada, and Alhumdulillah, we have some good news for you! Our Hijama Training Institute has become the first ever approved Hijama College in USA under the Pastoral Medical Association (PMA). This means that our graduates can obtain a license to practice Hijama Cupping Therapy under Religious Therapy. So we have moved one step closer to having Hijama recognized in the USA. Hijama Practitioners can practice Hijama under Religious Rights with our Certification and PMA licensure. So now, with the mercy and blessings of Allah, we have metaphorically come full circle back to the USA!
